Began teaching at LaGrange High School in 1969 as a ninth grade business and typing teacher.
- Started coaching freshman football and assisting varsity football that same year. At that time, his teams were made up of students from all four Lagrange schools.
- Created and fostered the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program at Lakeland for 34 years, from 1972-2006.
- Served as Lakeland’s girls’ sports director for 9 years, from 1977-1986.
- Announced Lakeland football games for 25 years, from 1989 until 2014, when he moved to Manchester and began announcing games for his college alma mater, Manchester University. Ray still announces for Manchester today.
- As Lakeland PA announcer, created the well-known catch phrase “If you’re gonna drink and drive, drink milk, and stay alive,” which he would share at the conclusion of each game.
- Continues to serve as a state track and field official, which he has done for over 40 years.
- Since 2003, has participated in 29 missionary trips to Nicaragua.
- Currently lives in North Manchester, IN with his wife Donna. His son Ryan, a Disney Travel Consultant, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, and his two granddaughters live nearby.
