Graduated from Jefferson High School in New Paris, OH in 1968 with 11 varsity letters in cross country, track, baseball, and basketball.
- Earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health, and American History from Manchester College in 1972. Earned his Master’s in Education from Ball State in 1976.
- Began teaching at Lima Junior High in 1972.
- From 1976 – 1980, coached the Laker Cross Country team to five straight Lakeland Invitational Championships, five straight NECC Championships, and a dual meet record of 106-9.
- Led the 1977 Laker cross country team to the state finals. He remains the only Lakeland coach to lead a team to a state final.
- Also served as varsity assistant basketball coach from 1975-1981, helping the team to two NECC tournament championships.
- Received the 1987 Teaching Excellence Award from Indiana University.
- Devoted 40 years to public education as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal, including 27 years at Lakeland and 7 at Central Noble.
- Currently resides on Twin Lake in LaGrange County with his wife, Sheila, and enjoys watching his granddaughters’ basketball games.
