Graduated from Lakeland in 1984 as a seven-time letter winner in basketball and tennis.
During her senior season, the Lady Laker basketball team won the NECC Regular Season Championship, the NECC Tournament Championship and the 1984 Sectional crown.
Earned an NECC All-Conference selection in 1984.
To this day, still ranks first in the Lakeland girls’ basketball record book in:
Most Free Throws Made in a single game (16)
Most Assists in a single game (16)
Most Career Assists (324)
Most Assists in a season (178)
On the tennis court, captured the 1984 Sectional Title at #1 singles, the first sectional championship for a Lakeland female tennis player.
After graduation, played four years of college basketball at St. Mary’s where she won multiple coach’s awards from her head coach, Marvin Wood, the actual coach of Milan High School whose story was featured in the movie Hoosiers.
Coached JV girls basketball at Lakeland for over 10 years, compiling a record of 129-33 and amassing an unprecedented 63 game win streak during that time.
Also acted as Lakeland’s varsity girls’ tennis coach from 2007-2009.
Rachel has devoted her professional career to educating Lakeland students. Since 1988, she has served as an elementary teacher, elementary counselor, and for the last 14 years, as the head counselor at Lakeland Jr/Sr High.
Married to her husband Andy, and they have 2 daughters, Beka and Beth.
