Monica is a 1995 graduate of Lakeland High School. She participated in Cross Country, Basketball, and Track and Field. Monica was recognized as an NECC All-Conference Selection for Cross Country in 1991, 1992, and 1993. She was also recognized as an NECC All-Conference selection for Track and Field. Monica holds the Lakeland School record for the 3200m with a time of 11 minutes and 21 seconds. She earned a spot on the IHSAA podium by placing 8th in the State for the 3200m in 1995.

Monica had outstanding success not only at the high school level, but went on to compete in the college ranks, with the same result. She was an eight time HCAC Conference Champion in Track and Field, while also becoming a three time HCAC All-Conference Selection in Cross Country. Monica earned All-American status 2 times in Cross Country and Track and Field during her time at Anderson University.
